The Story

Look, we all understand how important it is to have the right to vote, but here in Union County, we also understand that it's just as important to have an easy voting process. And thanks to SPLOST and an amazing staff of local election officials, we're doing just that. Let's check this out.

So before my time, voting used to be over at the courthouse. So you would go into the courthouse and do your voting and I think it was in the jury assembly room. So they obviously were out of space, upstairs was a voting registration office, also out of space and out of a room. So for us, SPLOST opened up the opportunity to have this building that we're in today. Plenty of office space, plenty of storage space. For advanced voting, we have a bigger facility so we can get people in and out fairly quickly.

While many Union County residents vote at their local precincts on election day, the demand for convenient early voting grows with every election cycle. With this location that we have, people are able to come in and vote in a timely manner. They don't have much of a wait, especially the presidential. That was a big election for us. The three weeks that we were here for early voting, there was 13,000-ish voters that came through. And then on election day, we have our 11 precincts. I think there was 5,000 that voted out at the precinct. So I would say 75 to 80% of people are interested in advanced voting. Works better with their schedule and yeah, more flexible. We're open a couple of Saturdays through the early voting timeframe.

I truly believe if we didn't have SPLOST, we would not have this building and the numerous facilities throughout the county. But for us to benefit the voters, to be able to come into a facility, the parking is more ample. We have plenty of space. They can come in and we can get them in and out in a timely manner, there's not much of a wait. Anyone that had to vote at the previous location at the courthouse would realize that this is a better facility and there's ample room and a better place to vote.

Okay, so most people in Union County prefer early voting. Thanks to SPLOST, we've got the perfect convenient place to do it.
