Deep South Farm Road Roundabout

So, in a roundabout way, SPLOST is making access to our local hospital safer and more convenient. Roundabout — you see what I did there? Never mind.

With our hospital growing by leaps and bounds, drivers need safer and more convenient access to the facility, which is why this roundabout is being constructed at Pat Haralson Drive at Deep South Farm Road. The intersection is a struggle on a daily basis with traffic and people turning different directions. So the roundabout is really going to help traffic stay safer and keep it flowing for patients trying to get into doctors' offices and hospitals, ambulances in case of an emergency, and also all the employees who work for the hospital in all those facilities.

Okay, so the roundabout is clearly necessary, but road construction is incredibly expensive. So should the financial burden become property taxpayers' only, or is there a better way to fund it? This roundabout would not be possible without SPLOST. It's a 90 percent grant-funded, 10 percent match. The grant money will cover most of it, at least half, and the SPLOST dollars will cover the rest of the roundabout cost, and property taxes won't be out a penny for it.

Safer, more convenient access to our hospital. SPLOST just keeps making Union County better.
